What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a Chartered Structural Engineer (MICE or MIStructE) with significant UK consultancy experience, confident in leading teams and managing multiple concurrent projects. You will combine a high level of technical capability with excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.

This role is ideal for someone already operating at Associate level or a Senior Engineer looking for a step up, who is ready to take on a broader strategic and management role within a collaborative and supportive design practice.

The successful candidate will have a range of experience to cover the below:

Core Technical Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight of technical delivery across all structural projects, ensuring engineering excellence and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Lead the design of complex structures, offering direction on technical risk, innovation, and design quality.
  • Set and maintain technical standards and quality control procedures across the structural engineering discipline.
  • Act as a senior technical advisor on challenging or high-profile projects, providing solutions that balance safety, sustainability, and commercial viability.
Team Leadership and Knowledge Sharing
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing structural engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Mentor senior and associate engineers, supporting their progression toward chartership and leadership roles.
  • Oversee internal training, CPD activities, and technical development strategies to continually raise capability and knowledge within the team.
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive working environment that nurtures talent and encourages innovation.
Project and Client Management
  • Oversee the successful delivery of multiple projects, ensuring high standards of client service, technical performance, and profitability.
  • Maintain close relationships with key clients and stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and project director.
  • Guide project teams through complex design and delivery stages, including risk management, resourcing, and strategic decision-making.
  • Support the resolution of major technical or site-related issues, drawing on extensive experience to inform practical and commercially sound decisions.
Commercial and Practice Development
  • Drive business growth through client relationship management, networking, and winning new work via bids, proposals, and strategic partnerships.
  • Lead commercial oversight of the structural team, including fee setting, financial performance, resource planning, and forecasting.
  • Contribute to business strategy, practice development, and long-term planning at a senior leadership level.
  • Champion the firm's brand, values, and vision internally and externally, representing the business at industry forums, events, and in the media where appropriate.
