Alan Dean

BSc | CEng | MICE | MIStructE

Alan is a both a Chartered Structural and Civil Engineer with over 40 years' experience in the construction industry.

He has extensive design experience with all the structural materials and, in common with all the Vertex Engineers' senior staff, he remains, very much, a 'hands-on' Structural Engineer.

Alan is passionate about sustainability, and so has a particular intertest in refurbishments – as re-using/re-purposing our existing building stock as much as possible, will minimise the need to demolish and rebuild from new.

Additionally, he relishes the structural 'detective work', necessary in order to, successfully, re-use existing buildings.

When away from Structural Engineering, Alan's hobbies include music (he is a guitarist and also sings in a choir) and walking in the Great Outdoors.

Redi Elezi

MSc | CEng | MIStructE

Redi is a highly experienced Chartered Structural Engineer with a passion for delivering exceptional results. With an extensive background in diverse sectors such as residential, commercial, healthcare, transport, and infrastructure projects, Redi brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every undertaking. Known for his meticulous approach and unwavering attention to detail, he takes great pride in ensuring that each project is executed flawlessly, meeting the highest standards of quality and safety.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Redi finds joy in the exhilarating world of skiing and motorsports. These thrilling activities not only serve as an outlet for his adventurous spirit but also reinforce his ability to think quickly and make calculated decisions—a skill set that seamlessly translates into his engineering work.

Derek Kent

BSc | CEng | MICE

Derek has over 45 years in the construction industry and is a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, BSI Sub-Committee B/517/8, Protect and Repair of Concrete Structures, European Standard for Concrete Repair and the BSI Committee B/517/8 Working Group 7, European Standard for Concrete Repair.

As a Chartered Engineer, MICE, Derek has amassed a wealth of experience directing investigations into failures of existing structures and materials and has been responsible for the design and supervision of a wide variety of schemes encompassing new build, refurbishment, alterations and major repairs to projects in the Education, Residential, Cultural and Custodial sectors, involving many listed buildings and historic structures. Derk has designed remedial schemes, passive galvanic protection, realkalisation and desalination of damaged concrete as alternatives to conventional concrete repair.

Derek has provided Expert Witness advice and reports on several litigation actions associated with the failure of a wide range of construction materials and systems.

In his spare time Derek enjoys travelling, taking his motorbike on continental trips, and charity work. Secretly Derek is a real foodie too!

Andrew Hardy

BSc | CEng | MIStructE

Andrew has over 38 years' experience of structural engineering, having been responsible for the design and supervision of a wide variety of projects including, sports halls, schools, housing, hospitals, laboratories, museums, theatres, industrial, offices, churches, and major substations utilising reinforced concrete, steelwork, load bearing masonry and timber.

More recently he has undertaken investigations, written reports and provided expert witness advice on several litigation actions associated with the failure of a wide range of construction materials and building systems.

A Munroist and erstwhile Corbetteer, his other passion is cycling and he can often be found on the roads of Hertfordshire, Majorca or the Alps!

Jeanette Foreman

Jeanette is a highly experienced Office Manager with an impressive 25-year background in the structural and Civil Engineering industries. Throughout her career, she has honed her skills in managing office operations and overseeing administrative tasks to ensure smooth workflow within companies. Jeanette's exceptional people skills have been instrumental in her success, allowing her to excel in dealing with both clients and personnel alike. Her ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with clients has contributed to the overall satisfaction and loyalty of the organizations she has worked with. Additionally, her adeptness in handling personnel matters, such as resolving conflicts and fostering a positive work environment, has made her an invaluable asset to her teams. With her extensive experience and exceptional interpersonal abilities, Jeanette continues to make a significant impact in the field of office management within the engineering industry.

In her spare time, Jeanette enjoys entertainment and regularly attends the stage shows and cinemas of London along with Art Galleries and Museums.

Mike Derewicz

CEng | MIStructE | MICE | MCIWEM

Michael has had extensive involvement in leadership positions within professional engineering organisations, as well as his participation in specialised task groups which highlights his commitment to advancing the field of civil and structural engineering.

Additionally, his membership in the Institution's EC7 Manual Task Group for Geotechnics highlights his expertise and active involvement in shaping industry guidelines related to geotechnical engineering. Michael demonstrates not only this technical expertise but also his dedication to contributing to industry standards, best practices, and the professional development of fellow engineers. His diverse project experience further reinforces his skills and adaptability across various aspects of engineering, from infrastructure and construction to historic preservation and geotechnical engineering.

Andy Pennington

MSc | BEng (Hons)

Andrew has spent over 30 years working across most sectors within the Construction Industry. He has a wealth of experience in structural engineering and infrastructure schemes in the UK, southern Africa and Australia, being responsible for the planning and design of water supply, sewerage and highway schemes, including working alongside the World Food Programme in Lesotho. Andrew has a particular interest and experience in flood risk and sustainable drainage and actively promotes the benefits of SuDS to clients. When he's not busy with work or his family, Andrew tries to find time for his competing passions of classic cars, motorbikes, the great outdoors and trail running – the muddier the better!

Martin Deus

MEng | MSc | MCIHT

Martin is a full member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (MCIHT), who has over 10 years´ UK experience in designing and managing drainage and highway schemes across a broad range of sectors, including residential, commercial, educational and electrical infrastructure. Growing up in Spain, Martin always had a passion for problem-solving, which ultimately led him to pursue a career in engineering. He has a keen interest in sustainability and climate resilience, and these are always at the forefront of his designs.

Martin is a firm believer that the key to every project´s success is clear communication, collaboration, and innovative thinking. His dedication to high-quality design and efficiency ensures that every scheme is completed to the highest standard.

Outside of work, he enjoys travelling and follows most sports anyone can think of! Loyal Deportivo de La Coruna fan, he remains convinced they will one day return to the top!
