The 15 storey City West Tower comprises of 44 luxurious 1, 2 & 3 bedroom apartments, each with external 'winter garden' space and predominantly dual aspect views. Sky View Tower rises 35 storeys, offering 147 fabulous 1, 2, & 3 bed apartments with winter gardens, and duplex penthouse apartments with both winter gardens and private roof terraces. Sky View Tower also benefits from a residents roof terrace garden at level 34, providing over 880 sqft of exclusive communal landscaped space.
The new buildings cover the majority of the site area which presents logisitical challenges for construction. Additional challenges include the need to build City West Tower over existing buried high voltage electrical cables, maintaining pedestrian access across the Bow Back River, designing the piled foundations around the foundations of the old flour mill that used to occupy the site and incorporating SUDS to limit surface water discharge.
Reinforced concrete frames with blade columns and flat slabs form the structure of the towers. This provides an inherent fire and sound insulation whilst allowing easy distribution of services and maximising floor to ceiling heights. The three-storey 'bridge structure' which contains the car parking is steel framed and articulated to allow for the different stiffnesses of the two towers. Stability is provided by robust concrete 'core' walls surrounding stairs and lift shafts. These cores are slip-formed and the columns are pre-cast to reduce construction time-on-site.
