Vertex was initially appointed to assist with remedial works to underground attenuation tanks for a new modular technical research building. Following the successful resolution to the remedial works, our appointment was extended to provide civil engineering services to develop the external works and SUDS drainage design for construction and to provide support for an application for an amendment to planning.

Extensive ground investigations were undertaken to determine optimal and cost-effective foundation design and to investigate the soil permeability for design of soakaways for the SUDS drainage system ensuring surface water was retained on site in line with the SUDS hierarchy.

An innovative solution was required to support door threshold access above the building’s undercroft that had not been fully developed by the original structural designer.

Vertex designed the SUDS drainage system using a combination of gullies, linear channels and geocellular attenuation tanks to satisfy an amended planning application to address deficiencies in the original civil design. Car parking and other hard-paved external works design was undertaken to complete the civil works design.
